Police searched the property.  With the help of a helicopter, a family member found the man underneath his ATV.

According to police, the victim was turning around a feeder bayou when a chain dragging behind the ATV got caught in a crevice along a concrete area of the bayou.

When the chain caught, it jerked the ATV backward, flipping the man off and causing him to hit his head.  Police said the ATV landed on top of him.  He died at the scene.

According to HPD, the man was a Fort Bend County deputy and ran for sheriff about 20 years ago. His name has not been released.
