Parking lot takeover complaints pile in to KPRC 2

Residents across the viewing area point out hot spots

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 Investigates has well-documented the uptick. It started with the pandemic, but street racing and parking lot takeovers haven’t subsided.

“They’re not experienced drivers and they like the speed, want to be that new Youtube sensational,” Sgt. Ana Ortiz with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said

Recently on Houston’s south side near the Gulf Freeway and Fuqua, KPRC 2 Investigates helped solve one business owners problem, weekend after weekend of the “slab scene” in his parking lot.

Harris County Precinct 2 Constable Jerry Garcia is the one who really jumped on that problem, dispatching deputies, running off trespassers over the course of several weekends.

Garcia’s crew issued warnings not tickets. Since then we’ve heard from you.

“Up and down Dunlavy, you definitely hear it a lot, I’m not sure if it’s street racing,” Shayla Reimer, a Montrose resident said.

Via email, you told us where you’re seeing problems, no corner of town is immune, and the best remedy is calling police, getting video of what’s happening, and reaching out to us.

“If they go to a parking lot, we’re going to go to that parking lot, we do not want people being nuisances,” Constable Garcia said.
