Generation Under Fire: Law enforcement, architects, administration redefine school safety

HOUSTON – School shootings have sparked a nationwide debate over gun violence and school safety in our country.

An impassioned generation is unafraid, taking to the streets to make their voices heard.

Monday night, KPRC Channel 2 is taking you right where the story is, covering every angle, from Houston to Washington, D.C., where an estimated 800,000 people marched on our nation’s Capital. 

We’re also taking you back to Parkland, Florida, where for nearly six weeks a steady stream of mourners have continued to pay their respects to the 17 people who were shot and killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. 

"Change is going happen. It's going come from here and it's going (to) come from the kids ... you're going see it, not just here but everywhere,” Adam Buchwald, a student, said. 

We’re also taking you inside some of our local schools, where law enforcement members, architects and administrators are redefining school safety.

"All the different security measures you put into place buys precious time for our students to ensure their safety, to ensure proper law enforcement response,” said Chief Eric Mendez, of the CyFair ISD police.
