Garage fire damages 2 homes in Atascocita, officials say

ATASCOCITA, Texas – Heavy winds are to blame for a fire spreading from a garage to two homes in northeast Harris County Sunday, officials said.

The fire started in the detached garage at 2:15 p.m. in the 6000 block of Ancient Oaks Drive in Atascocita, officials said. The fire then spread to the first house and then to the second house.

"Smoke was engulfing the whole street behind the house there," said Dillon Flanagan, who lives a few houses over from those that burned.

Flanagan recorded cellphone video, that captured wind carrying black smoke from one house to another.

"It was just tremendous," Flanagan said, describing the heavy smoke and flames.

While officials know the fire originated in the detached garage, they do not know what started it.

Fire marshals said no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
