Firefighter taken to hospital after suffering burns

HFD: Firefighter's shoulders, arms burned

HOUSTON – A Houston firefighter was hurt while battling a fire in southeast Houston on Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out on Alabama near Ennis about 2:30 a.m.

The Houston Fire Department said the firefighter suffered first-degree burns to his shoulders and arms. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was treated and later released.

The injured firefighter has only been with the department for about three months.

Firefighters said they think the building was vacant.

Investigators said the fire started near a freezer. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
