Deputies: Man steals off-duty officer's gun and shoots at him in northwest Harris County

Officer saw man rummaging through his vehicle and taking items, deputies say

HOUSTON – Deputies are searching for a man who they say stole an off-duty officer’s gun and shot at him in northwest Harris County.

It happened while the officer was going back and forth between his vehicle and his home on Plumwood Drive near Ella Boulevard, police say

According to investigators, the officer had surveillance cameras surrounding his home and noticed a man approaching his vehicle in one of the monitors.

Deputies said the officer saw the man rummaging through his vehicle and taking items.

When the officer went to confront the man, he took off with the officer’s gun, investigators said.

Deputies said the officer chased after the man, but the man shot at the officer three times before getting away.

The officer was not hurt.
