Astros pitcher David Paulino suspended after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs

HOUSTON – The Astros pitching staff took another blow this afternoon when it was announced that David Paulino tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The right-handed pitcher is now suspended for 80 games, will miss the remainder of the regular season and is ineligible to compete in the post-season.

He will not appeal the suspension.

Houston Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow released the following statement:

“We are disappointed in the news today regarding David Paulino. We hope this is a one-time incident and something David can learn from as he continues his career. The Astros will continue to fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.”
