Heavy rain continues along the coast, while rain tapers off inland

HOUSTON – As of 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening, pockets of heavy rain continued along the Gulf coast between Surfside Beach in Brazoria County and Chambers County.

The greatest threat from these downpours is minor street and stream flooding. Do not attempt to drive through water-covered roads in the coastal areas impacted by tonight’s rain.

An Areal Flood Advisory continues until 10:15 p.m. for the Texas City and La Marque areas in Galveston County, where some of the heaviest rain has lingered over a prolonged period of time. Rainfall has become less intense here, but minor flooding is still a concern.

Heavy rain will slowly migrate east and exit these coastal areas between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Inland rain is scattered and much lighter than the rain along the coast. A handful of showers will form inland overnight, but many areas will stay completely dry. No more heavy rain is expected away from the coast tonight.
