Nearly 4,000 pounds of pot hidden in shipment of limes, officials say

PHARR, Texas – Officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they found nearly 4,000 pounds of marijuana within a commercial shipment of key limes.

The drugs were found on Jan. 30, when officers assigned to the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility encountered a Freightliner tractor-trailer.

A secondary inspection of the tractor-trailer was conducted, and officers used an imaging system and a K-9 team to locate the marijuana.

Authorities said they seized nearly 35,000 packages containing nearly 4,000 pounds of marijuana mixed in with a shipment of key limes.

CBP said the drugs are worth about $790,000.
