Firefighters contain fire at pallet storage business

Crews shuttled water to the scene because there were no working hydrants nearby

A fire broke out at a pallet storage business in northeast Harris County on Saturday.

Fire officials say the blaze broke out around 1:30 a.m. near the Eastex Freeway and Hopper Rd.

Firefighters were fighting the blaze for hours. There were no working fire hydrants nearby, so firefighters had to send tanker shuttles down toward Hopper Rd. near Highway 59, pick up water and bring it back to the scene to put out the flames.

Most of the fire was contained to the pallet storage business, although firefighters said there is some heat damage to a nearby home and to an auto dealership nearby, but they said the pallet business sustained a majority of the damage.

The fire was contained around 6:30 a.m. There are still some hot spots, but firefighters say they are under control.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire
