Man accused of infecting teen, toddler with HIV receives life in prison

David Wilson accused of raping toddler, teen; both victims infected with HIV

HOUSTON – The man who police say sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and a toddler, infecting them both with HIV, has been sentenced to life in prison.  David Wilson, 34, was found guilty of the teen girl's rape on Thursday.

The jury only deliberated for about an hour before handing down a verdict.

"We the jury find the defendant, David Richard Wilson, guilty for sexual assault of a child," the foreman read.

The 14-year-old victim told investigators that she knew Wilson through a family member and they had sex multiple times. The teen, who tested positive for HIV and herpes, said she was pregnant with Wilson's baby.

"I have never denied about us having a relationship," Wilson said.

In the punishment phase of the trial, Wilson took the stand. He said he wanted to make sure the jury heard both sides.

He said he was in love with the 14-year-old and still is.

"I am not sorry we were together, no, I am sorry the HIV came into the situation," he said.

The prosecutor also brought up the other victim, a 23-month-old child who Wilson was living with at the time.

According to charging documents, family members took the toddler to Memorial Hermann in November 2013, where doctors discovered a growth on her genitals. Test results came back positive for HIV, herpes and Chlamydia.

A doctor told investigators the toddler "had to have been sexually assaulted as evidenced by the presence of three sexually transmitted diseases."

Doctors performed reconstructive surgery on the toddler because of damage from infection.

Police obtained STD tests on four people living with the toddler, but the only one that came back positive was Wilson's.

Wilson admitted to investigators he has had intimate relations with several unidentified women, who may also be at risk. He also had access to other juveniles. Wilson was employed by fast food establishments in the Houston area

Wilson was already a registered sex offender. In 2005, he was sent to prison for sexually assaulting another teenager in Harris County, and was released in 2009.
