At least 1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Missouri City, police say

HOUSTON – Houston police were on the scene Tuesday morning of an officer-involved shooting in Missouri City.

Police said the incident started as an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of Buzzy Bee gas station at Beltway 8 and South Post Oak Road, just on the Houston/Missouri City line.

A woman pumping gas saw three masked men approaching her, from a silver Volvo.

The victim, who wished to not be identified,  said, "I kept asking God, please forgive me for all my sins and I just knew I was going to die, I just knew I was going to die."

She said that made her realize she was in danger, according to police. The woman quickly got into her car, but when she tried to speed away, one of the masked men jumped onto her car, and tried to force himself in.

"I turned to walk back to my car and I noticed two guys walk up with red bandanas on their face, I knew right there something was wrong."

"They attempted to rob her, there are shots fired," said Houston police spokesman Victor Senties.

Surveillance video obtained by KPRC shows the woman speeding off, with the man still trying to force himself into the car. He eventually fell off the car, fired shots and ran back to the silver Volvo, before speeding off.

Police say two Houston police officers happened to be in the area and heard the shots being fired.

One female and three males, fled the scene in a silver Volvo and led police on a short chase, according to officers.

The chase ended 4 miles away, in the 1200 block of Tiny Tree Drive in a Missouri City neighborhood. Police said three men jumped out of the Volvo and ran.

"The officer noticed a suspect that had a weapon and that suspect turned with the weapon toward his partner and obviously fearing for his partner's life, he discharged the weapon," Santies said.

Police said the bullets killed one man and injured another. The other wanted man ran off and is on the loose.

The woman was inside the vehicle throughout the shooting. Investigators said she reached below her, and because the officer feared for his life, he fired in her direction. She was injured but, it was unclear if she suffered a gunshot wound or was injured by broken glass on the driver's side of the vehicle. Both of the injured suspects were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Officers said both were in stable condition.

The six-year veteran officer who fired his gun is on a three-day administrative leave, which is standard in officer-involved shootings. He must see psychological services before he can be cleared and return to duty.
