HOUSTON – The son of Galena Park Mayor Esmeralda Moya appeared in court Monday for his arraignment.
Sergio Jesus Moya, 26, is charged with up to three counts of possession of child porn.
According to the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable's Office, deputies raided his home Friday and arrested him on suspicion of child pornography.
"I don't know what's going on because I was not there. He hasn't been convicted, and he's cooperating," said his mother, Galena Park Mayor Esmeralda Moya.
Moya was a reserve deputy constable and dispatcher at Precinct 2. He was terminated Friday morning.
When Channel 2 asked the mayor if she thought the arrest of her son was politically motivated, she replied, "I think that way."
A date for his arraignment has not been set.
