3 arrested after Rudy's BBQ break-in, police chase

WEBSTER, Texas – Three men are in custody, accused of breaking into a restaurant in Webster, then leading police on a chase afterward.

According to Houston police, the burglars set off an alarm at Rudy's BBQ off the Gulf Freeway early Thursday morning.

Since October, several Rudy's "Country Store" restaurants have been targeted.

"The first time they found a way to break into the safe," said manager Alan Jordan. "We quickly got that problem fixed. We have cameras, alarms with a detailed security system, no one is able to get into the safe, but that hasn't stopped them until now."

Less than two minutes after the three men were seen on video breaking into the restaurant, surveillance video captured them running out and then police officers quickly followed.

Officers chased the alleged burglars speeding up I-45 toward Houston.

According to police, units from Houston laid out spike strips at Beltway 8, but the crooks didn't stop until they reached I-610 and Clinton Drive.

"We're thankful to them for cutting these guys off and catching them," said Jordan.

Officers caught one of the three men immediately, but the others ran into a nearby neighborhood.

Police said a K-9 unit helped find one of the suspects hiding under a house, and the other was caught running down the street.

Houston police turned all three suspects over to the Webster Police Department.
