There were some tense moments at a Walmart in Missouri City Thursday afternoon after a bomb scare at the store.
The threat was called in to the store in the 5500 block of Highway 6 at around 12:38 p.m.
Officers say someone managed to get through to the Walmart employees' portable radio channel and asked to speak with a manager. When the manager got on the radio, the person said there was a bomb inside the building and they only had five minutes to get out until it detonated.
Walmart called a Code Blue, and the store was immediately evacuated.
"They said everyone needs to evacuate the building, and I thought I didn't hear that right, and then when I saw everyone clearing out, I thought I need to go near the aisle. And when I got in the middle of the aisleway, the associates were beckoning people to leave," says customer Laura Beasley.
The entire store emptied out into the parking lot.
"Everyone was waiting at first in front of the doors, and they were saying, 'No, no, no you have to head 500 feet away,' so that is when we went down there," said Beasley.
They stood in the shade under the trees for about an hour and a half while officers assisted Walmart management with checking the store for any suspicious packages.
"I just see all this stuff was down there under the trees, and somebody said it was a bomb threat so I left and went somewhere else," said customer Ed Herron.
Nothing suspicious was found. The store reopened and returned to normal business.
The incident remains under investigation.
