Man shot at birthday party in northwest Houston

HPD: 'Dirty look' led to shooting

HOUSTON – Police say they have a good idea of who started a shooting at a birthday party in northwest Houston. Now they are working to find him.

Police were called to an apartment complex on Long Point and Johanna Street just before 3 a.m. Monday.

Upon arrival officers found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

According to the victim's niece, Lesly Castro, there were about 10 people at her apartment for her father's birthday. She says a man walked by and gave her uncle a dirty look. She says her uncle got upset and they started arguing.

"He started saying, 'Why are you looking at me like that?'" said Castro. "They wanted to start a fight but the other guy pulled out a gun. He chased him all the way over here. He stopped right there and he said, 'Oh, you want more,' and shot him twice."

The victim's family says the gunman is a gang member.

Witnesses said the victim collapsed on the ground, bleeding from the stomach, as the gunman ran away.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He's listed in critical but stable condition.

Houston police are still searching for the gunman.
