HOUSTON – After an awful accident left Deputy Jason Denham in critical condition earlier this week, over 100 of his fellow employees showed up Thursday to give blood in his support.
"It is a brotherhood,. We are all a family, it is a big 4,000 person family," says Deputy David Klozik, with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Houstonians waited in line to give a little piece of themselves to someone who puts their life on the line each day.
"He is a good guy. He goes out of his way to help everybody, he doesn't mind working late. One of the best co-workers I have had," says Klozik.
On Tuesday, Denham crashed his patrol car on the Beltway. His K-9 partner was not hurt, but Sheriff Adrian Garcia says Denham suffered severe trauma to the left side of his body. On Thursday a blood drive was held in his honor.
"Agencies from all over Houston, not just the sheriff's office have come forward to show their support for Deputy Denham, but also as a reminder that there are several people like him, everyday, that are in need of blood," says Elvia Espino, Harris Co. Sheriff's Office Community Engagement Manager.
Deputy Denham remains in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Officials said the dog, Sjors, was in good condition and taken to a local veterinarian to be checked out. Garcia said Sjors was "up and barking."
The sheriff's office says Denham is a 10-year veteran of the force. He is married and has three daughters.
