Houston celebrates MLK Day with 2 parades

HOUSTON – Houstonians honored the legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday with two parades.

One parade was held in Downtown Houston. The other was in Midtown.

The Black Heritage Society produced the 36th annual "Original" MLK birthday parade downtown.

It started at Minute Maid Park, went through downtown, then ended at Discovery Green. Additional events were planned at Discovery Green.

The MLK Grande Parade was held in Midtown. The parade featured 36 nationally acclaimed marching bands from across the nation.

It was lead by the University of Houston "The Spirit of Houston" marching band, the Texas Southern University "Ocean of Soul" marching band and the Prairie View A&M "Marching Storm" marching band.
