HOUSTON – The Houston Fire Department is encouraging everyone to have a fun and safe New Year's Eve celebration by reminding citizens about firework use.
"Fireworks are illegal in the City of Houston and they are also very dangerous." Said Houston Fire Marshal Richard Galvan.

Fines can range anywhere from $500 to $2000 for each individual firework.
A recent bill does allow the transportation of fireworks through the city, however there are restrictions as to where the fireworks can be placed while inside the vehicle. Houston Police are no longer issuing warnings to those caught with fireworks, because of the seriousness of the fireworks law.
If a minor is caught with fireworks, the parent or guardian will receive the fine, even if they were unaware that they were in the minors possession.
For those that live outside the City of Houston, and in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, there are some places you cannot use fireworks. Such places include areas near churches, hospitals, asylums, schools, or licensed child care centers. Written authorization from that organization would be the only exception.
