Pastor: Burglars have hit my church twice in 4 months

The pastor said the church has insurance, but he knows that filing more claims could increase their premiums

KATY, Texas – The pastor of a church, near Katy, said burglars have hit his church twice in just four months.

The pastor of Christ's Mercy Church on Porter Road said the problems started in June when someone stole two air conditioners. That theft cost about $10,000. On September 26, the pastor said a man captured on church surveillance video, driving a blue pickup, broke into the storage shed and stole a lawn mower, a ladder, a gas can and more costing the church an estimated $1,500.

"He just starts unloading stuff out of the storage shed into his pickup," said Wade Cashion, lead pastor.

He said two thefts in four months at this church with about 50 members takes a toll.

Cashion said, "We don't have that many people and our budget runs pretty tight and so when someone is ripping off your air conditioning units and breaking into your storage shed, you feel it immediately."

The pastor said the church has insurance, but knows that filing more claims could increase their premiums.

Cashion said, "Kinda be a man. Grow up. Work your own job. Buy your own stuff and get your hands off of ours."

The members pray for whoever stole their stuff, but hope that anyone with information that could solve this case will call the Harris County Sheriff.
