Deputy kills stabbing suspect outside restaurant

HOUSTON – An off-duty deputy shot and killed a man who stabbed another man outside a north Harris County restaurant, officials said.

Two men got into an argument inside the Michoacan restaurant at 15135 North Freeway early Friday.  They left the restaurant and continued arguing in the parking lot, officials said. During the dispute, deputies said one of the men pulled out a knife and started stabbing the other man.

An off-duty deputy saw the attack, pulled his weapon, and ordered the man to drop the knife, officials said.

When the man didn't drop the knife and continued fighting with the victim, the deputy shot the attacker, according to authorities.

"The deputy ordered him to drop the weapon," said Thomas Gillaland with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.  "He refused, and he was shot one time by the deputy."

Deputies said the suspect died at the scene. Emergency crews took the stabbing victim to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

No names have been released.
