High school teacher under investigation

LA PORTE, Texas – A female teacher at La Porte High School has been put on paid administrative leave after allegations of criminal behavior.

La Porte Independent School District officials would not identify the teacher nor elaborate on the nature of the allegations beyond saying that they were serious. The district did confirm that the investigation stemmed from an incident that occurred earlier this month between the teacher in question and a former La Porte High School student.

The district added that incident did not occur on school grounds and is now in the hands of the La Porte Police Department, which has also not yet provided details. The teacher was put on leave on Jan. 10.

"It's a concern," Alicia Escobar said after picking up her 10th-grade son from school.  "I don't like the fact that there's stuff like that that goes on, but I'm glad that they're addressing it."

La Porte ISD issued a statement today that read in part:

"On the basis of the preliminary findings of the investigator, bringing into question the good judgment of the employee, the employee was placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is completed."

A La Porte ISD representative added that in addition to cooperating with police, the district has hired an independent lawyer who will serve as a third-party investigator.
