HOUSTON – President Barack Obama won re-election, but he lost Texas yet won Harris County.
With 100 percent of Harris County precincts reporting, Obama received 585,451 votes compared to Mitt Romney's 584,866 votes -- a difference of 585 votes.
In all of Texas, Romney won 4,555,799 votes to Obama's 3,294,440.
"What I see is a country divided but people pick their own way down the ballot, and that is a good sign for our democracy," Houston Mayor Annise Parker said.
Other Democrats, like Sheriff Adrian Garcia, were also victorious in Harris County. Republican candidates, like District Attorney-elect Mike Anderson, were also successful.
"What we need are elected officials who care about Texas, not about party," Parker said.
U.S. Rep. Pete Olson, a Republican from Sugar Land, said he will work with Obama, but he won't compromise on critical issues facing the country.
"What I hope and pray is that President Obama starts to lead specifically on passing a budget," Olson said. "The Senate has not passed a budged in the four years I've been in Congress."
