CHANNELVIEW, Texas – Harris County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 70-year-old man accused of attacking a teenager and trying to rape her.
Don Porterfield is in jail facing several charges. The alleged incident happened at Porterfield's Channelview trailer.
Investigators said the two are family friends and Porterfield invited the 15-year-old over. Once inside, Porterfield is accused of trying to tie the teen up, but she fought back, got away and called her mother who then called the police.
"Oh man, that scares me," said Kristy Day who lives just a few doors down. "I have children and a grand baby."
What's even scarier for neighbors is the fact that investigators said Porterfield was convicted of rape in 1976, got out of jail and was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in 1990. They also said Porterfield moved six months ago and did not register his new address.
Porterfield is charged with failing to register as a sex offender and aggravated kidnapping. He's being held in the Harris County Jail with bond set at $30,000.
