Former day care owner accused of child indecency

Michael Hudson used to co-own Shoelaces Learning Center

HOUSTON – A former southeast Houston day care owner has been arrested and charged with indecency with a child.

Michael Oshay Hudson, 38, was both an employee and co-owner at Shoelaces Learning Center, 5007 Higgins St.

According to court records, on June 1, 2008, Hudson engaged in a sexual act with a 7-year-old boy who attended the day care.

The outcry, according to a Houston Police Department investigator, came just recently.

According to Hudson's ex-wife, the suspect has not worked at the day care for eight years, which

does not mesh with the timeline outlined by police.

Local 2 Investigates asked the suspect's ex-wife, Shannon Holt, about the discrepancy.

"They could be mistaken about the timing," Holt said.

Holt has not been implicated in any crime, and is now sole owner of the day care, according to

Harris County records.

However, according to state day care inspectors, Shoelaces Learning Center has logged 14 "deficiencies" in the last two years. Included in the list of violations is a failure to keep current employee background checks on file.

The problem, according to a follow-up report, was corrected, as were the other deficiencies. You can see the list here.

Holt said she does not employ anyone else at the day care at this time, except for a volunteer who works sporadically. Holt said that person has a clean record, but she did not reveal that person's name.

On Local 2's visit to the day care, Holt said she was watching seven children by herself.

Michael Hudson remains in the Harris County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond. He has no previous

adult convictions in Harris County and is not a registered sex offender.
