HOUSTON – Travel + Leisure Magazine has named Houston as the best burger city in the United States, and many Houstonians agree with that ranking.

One of the most popular local places to grab a burger is Lankford Grocery. It's mission statement says it doesn't have anything healthy, small or fast.
"We are so flattered," Eydie Lankford Prior said. "All our meat is fresh ground. Nothing is ever frozen."
Prior said she has been flipping patties for as long as she can remember, and she loves her customers.
"Once you become a regular here, you're a regular here," Prior said. "If you don't come back, we start looking for you."
Regular customers said they are hooked.
"I always get a double with cheese, usually with the habanero mustard, called the Firehouse Burger," customer Frank Zwebeck said.
The burgers are big, and the meat patties have a generous amount of black pepper and special seasonings.
"We're not going to tell you what it is," said Prior, making sure her secret stays a secret.
Lankford Grocery only serves breakfast and lunch.
The restaurant has been featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
