Shopping high-end at consignment stores

HOUSTON – If you're looking to redecorate, don't forget about Houston's consignment stores.

You can find just about any style in Cuatro, a consignment store on Bissonnet Street in West University.

The store items come from owners who got rid of their things when they moved, downsized, or redecorated.

Cuatro owner, Chelsea Dreyer, a former gas broker, broke out of the energy business to open the store six months ago.

Dreyer says Houston consumers who couldn't otherwise afford luxury price tags can come to Quatro to go high-end second-hand.

Items in the store include custom lined drapes. Four panels that were originally thousands of dollars are now less than $2,000.

Its not exactly chump change, but there are lamps, lighting, chairs, and tables; all at a fraction of what you'd pay full price.

David Frosch at Repeat Consignments Superstore says he brings in name brands his customers see at mainstream furniture stores.

Not only does the store have furniture, but also washers, dryers, and accessories.

A copper table is even inside and originally purchased at The Arrangement. The original receipt shows the owner bought the set in 2010 for $11,700. Now, you can get it for less than $5,000.

For some, consignment shops are more about the hunt, search for a surprise and big savings.

At both businesses, they lower prices the longer a piece sits in the store.

At Repeat Consignment Superstore, the tag tells you how much the item will be in a few weeks.

But if you wait for the lower price, you're taking a gamble that it will still be there when you come back.
