It took place less than a day after Police Chief Wayne Walles announced the firing of the officer who fatally shot Marcellis Stinnette, a Black man, and wounded Tafara Williams, 20. Attorneys representing Williams called the officer's firing โ€œa first step in police accountability" but said they are pressing ahead with their own probe of the shooting. Authorities have said the shooting that killed Stinnette and wounded Williams occurred following what they have described as a traffic stop. The officer who shot the couple is Hispanic and had been with the Waukegan Police Department for five years. Police said that as the second officer approached, the vehicle started moving in reverse and the officer โ€” fearing for his safety โ€” opened fire.

(NBC NEWS) โ€“ Nearly a week after the police shooting that wounded a 13-year-old Salt Lake City boy with autism, Salt Lake Cityโ€™s police chief has commented on the case. Barton wasnโ€™t at home at the time, but was driving toward her neighborhood when she called 911 from the car. Heโ€™s having an episode, he needs to go to the hospital,โ€ said Barton. According to Salt Lake City police, when they got the call, they were asked to respond to a report of a โ€œjuvenileโ€ having a โ€œviolent psychological issue.โ€ Police have said when they came into contact with Cameren, he ran. Police Chief Mike Brown could not confirm the sequence of events, pointing to three separate investigations both inside and outside the Salt Lake City Police Department that will determine the facts.

HOUSTON โ€“ City council members discussed next yearโ€™s city budget as protesters demanded change outside City Hall. Dozens gathered for a rally Wednesday, a day after George Floyd was laid to rest. The council members talked about the re-allocation of nearly $12 million in under-utilized funds to be redirected to city programs, as well as enhanced training for HPD. George Floyd died because of the end result.โ€At the funeral of Floyd, Mayor Turner said he would sign an executive order to ban chokeholds, require officers de-escalate situations and use all options before lethal force. โ€œGeorge Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis after chokeholds have been banned, you canโ€™t keep ordering executive on orders on something thatโ€™s not working,โ€ said Woods.
