Tessa Barrera was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was a nationwide search for the Rod Ryan Show morning co-host that brought her to Houston in 2019.
Before that, she served as an anchor and executive producer of KFI AM 640 talk radio news in Los Angeles. She previously worked at KZTV/KRIS where she was the first Latina sports anchor in south Texas. While in Corpus Christi, she covered the Astro’s minor league affiliate, Hooks, Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders, Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas, and the entire south Texas high school sports circuit. During Hurricane Harvey, Barrera discovered her knack for news and one of her stories made international headlines - it was even tweeted out by the Pope!
Tessa is a sports fanatic and is more than comfortable cheering on the Astros and Rockets.
Recreationally, Tessa enjoys sand volleyball, watching football, being out on the water, reading, and family vacations.
She is passionate about…well everything, there is no story too small or too big to cover.
