Texans elevate wide receiver Steven Sims Jr., Garret Wallow, Nico Collins sidelined with calf strain

Wide receiver, Travis graduate to be active

HOUSTON – The Texans are elevating wide receiver and kick returner Steven Sims Jr. from the practice squad with wide receiv, per a league source.

The Travis graduate is being activated with starting wide receiver Nico Collins sidelined with a strained calf.

The Texans later made it official along with elevating linebacker Garret Wallow from the practice squad with Blake Cashman out with a hamstring injury, officially activating kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn from injured reserve and placed cornerback Tavierre Thomas on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Thomas was expected to miss at least a few weeks before he could resume activities, per sources.

Sims has two catches for 25 yards this season and two punt returns for 16 yards.

Sims played collegiately at Kansas and signed with the Washington franchise after going undrafted.

He played last season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, catching 19 passes for 105 yards. He had 13 runs for 70 yards The 5-foot-9, 184-pound Travis High School graduate had a touchdown return as a rookie.

He returned 24 punts for a 5.5 average and averaged 25.5 yards per kickoff return last season for Pittsburgh. He has 77 career receptions for 704 yards and five touchdowns.
