Syrian-Americans in Houston react to air strikes

HOUSTON – A strong message of praise for President Donald Trump from a member of the Syrian community of Houston after the President fired a barrage of missiles into an airbase in Syria.

"Thank you, Mr. President for taking a bold step in the face of a bully and protecting civilians in Syria," said Shireen Jasser with the Syrian American Council Houston. "The dictator Assad has been slaughtering civilians for the past six years with impunity and over half a million people have been killed and this isn't the first chemical weapons attack."

This week, the latest chemical weapons attack.

Syrian-Americans in Houston are horrified by the more than 100 men, women, and children killed by Syria's President Bashar al-Assad.

President Trump launched the airbase attack in retaliation against Assad.

"For six years, we felt that the world had turned their back to their struggles and that nobody cared about the abuses and the killing and so this is the first time that we feel that the President of the United States is interested," said Jasser. "This is about national security interests and it's also a way to prevent and deter further attacks which makes everyone else safer."

The Syrian government says 9 people were killed in the attack by the U.S.

Russia, which supports the Assad regime, calls the air strikes "a violation of international law."
