Researchers looked at all 50 states comparing different data ranging from median earnings for women workers to the quality of women’s healthcare and homicide rate.

The final results named the Lone Star State 5th worst in the U.S. between Alabama and Louisiana. This is the second consecutive year WalletHub gave Texas a low ranking, but in this year’s survey, the Lone Star State went down a couple notches, being named 43rd best state for women, compared to this year’s 47th place.

Massachusetts, meanwhile, was ranked the best state for women, while Mississippi was ranked the very least.

“Despite improvements the U.S. has made over the years, women still lag behind men when it comes to economic prospects, executive positions and political representation,” Milvionne Chery Copeland, WalletHub Analyst said in a written statement. “On top of tackling these important issues, the best states for women also ensure that they have access to high-quality health care, receive the same educational opportunities as men, and live in safe communities.”
