WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – It's a Friday night in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
There aren't a lot of "open for business" signs downtown.
In a town of 2,200 people, most of whom work at The Greenbrier, downtown mostly shuts down at 9 p.m.
"Slow-mo. We're in slow mode," Terri Howard, who has lived in White Sulphur Springs for 24 years, said. "I'm from California, so moving here took me six years to actually calm down from the pace of life here."
Just a handful of restaurants stay open past 9, and there are no nightclubs or so-called hot spots to venture into.
"On a weekend, every Sunday, there's a Happy Sunday and we celebrate it at the 50 East," Rea Kilcho said. "Sometimes we hang out with friends, drinks, like that. Just that. But it's so quiet here."
And that's the point.
People don't live in White Sulphur Springs to party.
Like the tourists who visit, they're there to slow down, relax and unplug to have a good time.
