Freebie Friday: End summer on high note with these free kid activities

HOUSTON – School is almost back in session and if you're like most parents, you are looking for indoor activities for the kids to get you through this last week of brutal summer heat. KPRC consumer expert Amy Davis has some ideas that won't cost you anything.

The first event is tonight, August 14th at Idea Lab in Sugar Land.

Check out Jurassic walking dinosaurs from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tonight at Idea Lab's open house on Highway 6 at Olympia Drive. Admission is free. If you miss this one, you can catch the creatures at the Energy Corridor Idea Lab location on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The reptiles at the Armand Bayou Nature Center in Pasadena are real. Admission is free from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Next week is your last chance to escape the extreme heat and take your little ones to a free movie.

Watch "How to Train Your Dragon 2" at Santikos Silverado Tomball Theater and the Paladium in Richmond. The free movie is showing on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10am. Free tickets are available at the box office the same morning of the show; and they're distributed on a first come, first served basis.

After all those activities, you might need some coffee. If you're one of the first 100 people in the door Monday morning at the newest Corner Bakery Cafe at 19355 Katy Freeway at Greenhouse, you'll get a free travel mug and free daily refills of hand roasted coffee for a year! The doors open at 6:30am. One lucky person will win free paninis for a year.

Head over to Houston on the Cheap for more free and cheap fun in and around Houston.
