Local rapper murdered in his home

HOUSTONHis stage name was Mic Flo and at 27 years old, Michael Rene Hernandez, of South Houston, had a dream to be a world famous rap music singer.

But on December 19, 2013, just a few days before Christmas, only a few hours after celebrating his 6-year-old daughter Aaliana's birthday, Hernandez was shot down and murdered inside the home he had only moved into a few days before.

Investigators said he was murdered by a group of men who broke into his home to rob him.

"I miss his hugs. He would come into my kitchen every time and hug and kiss me, and I miss that about him so much," said Hernandez's mother, Belinda Torres.

Now, almost four months after the brutal murder of her son, Torres said she believes Hernandez was set up, targeted and betrayed by a close friend, who instructed the killers on how to get into Michael's home, because, she said, Hernandez was seen as easy prey, a man with a lot of cash around and lots of expensive items in his home.

"It had been planned by some other person who knew him and betrayed him and betrayed his friendship," Torres said.

Hernandez was a contract laborer who worked at various construction sites. He was also a single father, raising his only daughter.

So far, only one man, Nathan Garza, was arrested in connection with the crime. According to Hernandez's family, he has been charged with capital murder and is being held without bond.

But Hernandez's family believes there are still three more accomplices running free.

Torres said she believes there are people who know exactly who the other three attackers are and she wants those with information to go to the police.

"There are three men at large and I want them caught, because I don't want them to hurt anyone else like they hurt our family," Torres said.

She is asking anyone with information on the killing of her son to come forward and report it by calling Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

"These are vicious, evil people, who need to be stopped," Torres said.
