Deputies said that the teacher showed up to McAdams Junior High School on Monday, then left abruptly in the middle of first period.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Department received reports that the teacher had a weapon on campus and the school was immediately placed on lockdown. The building was checked and there were no signs of a weapon or the teacher.
The lockdown was then lifted and school officials began notifying parents of the situation. But by then, hundreds of parents swarmed the school to pull their children out of class.
At around 3:15 on Monday afternoon, Texas City Police found the teacher near Mall of the Mainland. According to district officials, a gun was found inside the teacher's vehicle several miles from campus. However, investigators said it can't be proven he had it with him on campus.
A Galveston County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said the teacher never made any direct threats toward the school or its students. No charges are expected against the teacher.
