Harvey Relief Hub created to give volunteers a way to help

HOUSTON – Houston volunteers trying to help their neighbors in need after Hurricane Harvey opened the Harvey Relief Hub.

The Hub is located just north of downtown at 2500 Summer Street. Volunteers sign up for shifts or just stop by from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Volunteers can help hand out supplies, answer phones, or help homeowners with flood cleanup. If you are in need of assistance, just fill out the web form on the Harvey Relief Hub website. A volunteer will try and match your needs with a donor or someone who can help.

Houston realtor Bill Baldwin started the hub shortly after Harvey hit. He and several others wanted to help, but were not utilized when they showed up at the George R. Brown. When the Red Cross stopped accepting donations, Baldwin said he knew there was still a need. At the warehouse on Summer Street, they can store and sort all of the donations. Most mornings, victims are lined up to get clothes, food and cleaning supplies.

Baldwin said the last day for the Hub will be Sept. 17.
