Authorities are responding to a home in northeast Houston where they said a suspect is barricaded inside.

A police official says man who escaped from a Mississippi jail and is a suspect in a Monday night killing is believed to have died after barricading himself in a home and setting it on fire during an armed standoff with deputies.

Authorities said nearby schools McMullan Elementary and Alice Johnson Junior High are conducting a lockout as a result. Deputies said they are outside a home in the 15400 block of Casita Verde Way, where they took custody of one suspect. HOUSTON – Authorities said a man who surrendered half-naked after an hours-long standoff and chase is now in custody. Deputies said the incident happened Wednesday in the parking lot behind a hotel along the North Freeway and Parker Road. According to investigators, the chase started out of Huntsville after a traffic violation around 1 a.m. Police said the suspect was reported to be armed. At some point during the chase, troopers performed a pit maneuver on the suspect who then spun out and later drove away before parking behind the hotel, officials said. Deputies said he got out of the truck naked from the waist down and was arrested.

A standoff between a Harris County sheriffs SWAT unit and a barricaded man ended in a house fire. The suspects sister, who reported the weapons disturbance, told authorities her brother was acting erratically. During the course of the standoff, the Harris County Sheriffs Office obtained an arrest warrant for the aggravated assault on a peace officer. A Harris County sheriffs SWAT team attempted to breach the house when they noticed flames coming from the attic. During that incident, deputies recovered some weapons from his residence and he was sent to a mental health unit.
