Give it up, USFL. A revived United States Football League — borrowing the moniker and team nicknames from a league that went out of business 36 years ago — launched last month with all regular-season games being played in Birmingham, Alabama. USFL, The Sequel is following a familiar formula for spring football in recent years: a bunch of unknown players, sloppy play and games played in front of mostly empty seats.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson buys XFL for $15 million with Redbird Capital as partner
HOUSTON – The XFL is coming back, thanks to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The actor, producer and retired wrestler teamed up with Redbird Capital and became the only bid to purchase the bankrupt league before the auction was slated to begin, according to NBC Sports and Sportico. The group paid $15 million for the league, split evenly with Johnson’s business partner and ex-wife, Dany Garcia. [Johnson, Garcia and Redbird Capital] are the best possible ownership group for the exciting journey ahead,” XFL President Jeffrey Pollack, who oversaw the sale process for the league, told Sportico in a statement. There was no word on when the XFL will make a return.

NCAA Tourney Canceled, Sports Leagues Suspended Over COVID-19
Most professional sports leagues have announced over the past couple of days that they would be suspending play for at least a month. In the case of the fledgling XFL and the NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, it's full on cancellation. On Thursday, the NCAA announced it would cancel March Madness with no intention of resuming at a later date. The XFL suspended the season at the halfway mark, while agreeing to pay its players for the full season and committing to being back in 2021. Given the length of the sports seasons and the expectation that the viral outbreak will not last forever, suspending seasons made sense.

With opening day around the corner, baseball and other sports leagues will have to deal with another opponent: the coronavirus. The stories of infections and deaths related to the coronavirus have prompted quarantines and event cancellations around the world. Other world soccer leagues are bound to be affected as are major international events like the British Open in golf, Wimbledon in tennis and, of course, the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The roughnecks are blessed with an exciting brand of offense, and a triggerman in quarterback P.J. (What up, Deshaun Watson!) So what was Deshaun Watson trying to say? I'll rely on my personal experience with Deshaun Watson, which is that he is sweetheart of a human being without an irritated, angry, contempt-ridden bone in his body.
