Two Harris County Deputies take their own lives, sparking the need to highlight mental health support for first responders all over the state of Texas.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo held its annual First Responders Day on Monday, March 10, presented by BP America. Houston Life’s Tessa Barrera takes us inside the celebration to see how they recognized and honored our local first responders and their service to the community.

The Houston Texans, in partnership with Kroger, announced a joint collaboration with America’s VetDogs to name and train their second future service dog. This initiative aims to provide a disabled veteran or first responder with disabilities with a highly trained and devoted service dog.

HOUSTON – Memorial Hermann ICU nurse Christie Purviance is no stranger to heartbreak. Earlier this spring in the COVID unit, nine out of ten patients put on ventilators didn’t make it. Though the physical separation from her family was extremely tough, Purviance said she knew there was a very important reason for it. “Even if it’s just a small percentage it’s still someone’s family that’s affected,” said the ICU nurse. It will no doubt serve as a shining reminder that a little bit of love can go a long way.
