Police are investigating after a deadly crash involving an 18-wheeler in southwest Houston Sunday, officers said. Investigators said the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver and two people are dead.

Officers said the driver may have been street racing before the deadly crash. The driver of the Challenger or Charger took off when the BMW hit the tree and caught on fire, police said. According to investigators, the BMW split in half on the tree. Witnesses told officers they saw the same BMW run a light while on Hillcroft before the fatal crash. Officers are still looking for the other driver that was racing during the incident.

HOUSTON โ Family members of the victims were in the courtroom Tuesday, including the husband and father of the woman killed. Family members of victims Porsha Branch, 28, and her three children, ages seven months, 5, and 2, were visibly upset when authorities brought the suspect into the courtroom. Daniel Canada, 35, faces four counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. According to Harris County officials, Canada was drunk with a blood-alcohol level of at least .15 when he slammed into another car, killing a mother and her three children. The fiery crash resulted in a seven-car pileup on Sunday night.

HOUSTON A magistrate judge reviewed a case Monday morning involving a mother accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a fiery crash that severely burned her son. Court officials said the six-year-old will likely die and the mother was given a $75,000 bond. Authorities said early Saturday morning 28-year-old Erika Long was caused a single-vehicle crash along the Grand Parkway in Spring. The six-year-old boy taken to UTMB via Life Flight while his mother was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Teare said Long has been charged twice before in connection to her six-year-old son.
HPD: Driver dies in fiery crash after slamming into wrecker; Beltway 8 reopens
HOUSTON โ Houston police are investigating a deadly, fiery crash that shut down parts of the Beltway 8 Wednesday morning. Police said they were called to an earlier crash around 2:45 a.m. on Beltway 8 and John F. Kennedy in north Houston. According to officers, they were clearing the accident when the driver of an SUV crashed into one of the wreckers. โWe donโt see any roadway evidence that he (the driver) applied his brakes at all.โAfter the crash, the SUV caught on fire, killing the trapped driver of the SUV. Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
