Voters will decide who will be the next Houston mayor during the General and Special Election on Nov. 7, 2023. Registered voters within city limits will also decide the fate of several open city council member positions, propositions and Houston school trustees.

The 2023 General and Special Election will be held on Nov. 7, 2023. Voters who live within the city will cast their votes for Houston mayor candidates and for Houston City Council. Voters will also cast their votes for statewide and countywide propositions, county bond issues, school district props and trustees.

Fort Bend County voters add 3 newcomers to school board
SUGAR LAND, Texas โ Thereโs been a shake-up within the Fort Bend Independent School District school board. Fort Bend County voters have chosen three new faces to represent them and their children on the school board. Weโve never ever had that many people vote in a school board election.โHamin said sheโs excited to get on the board and start advocating for children. Incumbent Kristin Tassin fell short of necessary votes to keep her trustee position 4 seat. Colony Bend Elementary School parent Rachel Hancock said it takes a special person to want to run for a board of trustee position.
The unexpected winner on election night? Drugs
While we may not know if President Donald Trump or former Vice President Joe Biden won the presidential election for a while longer, there was one clear โwinnerโ on election night, and that was recreational drugs. States across the country have been legalizing recreational marijuana every election cycle, and 2020 was no different. Residents in New Jersey, Arizona, Montana and South Dakota all voted to legalize recreational cannabis, and South Dakota also legalized medical marijuana, along with Mississippi. South Dakota became the first state to legalize medical and recreational marijuana in the same election. For the first time in U.S. history, the state of Oregon decriminalized possession of hard drugs, as well as voted to legalize psychedelic mushrooms.

Answer: First and foremost, NBC News will not call a race until the Decision Desk is at least 99.5 percent confident of the winner. On Election Night, the Decision Desk will make the following calls, according to NBC News:Too Early To Call: This characterization covers two scenarios. Projected Winner: NBC News has made a projection that a candidate will win the race. According to NBC, vote count analysts ensure accuracy by inspecting results and looking for irregularities or inconsistencies with past voting behavior. Once the Decision Desk is at least 99.5 percent confident in a projection, NBC News will call the race.
