Decision 2024 Primary Election Results (KPRC/Click2Houston.com)

HOUSTON – Texans had cast their ballot for the 2024 primary election on March 5, a crucial step in selecting candidates for a range of significant offices including the U.S. president, U.S. Senate, congressional and legislative positions, the State Board of Education, the Railroad Commission, and various judicial seats.

In this primary election, voters will play a pivotal role in determining the candidates who will represent the Democratic and Republican parties in the November general election. The candidate securing the majority of votes in a particular race will emerge as the party’s nominee for that position. However, in cases where no candidate garners a majority, the top two contenders will advance to a runoff election scheduled for May 28.

It’s worth noting that while the Democratic and Republican parties hold primary elections, the Green and Libertarian parties employ a different approach. These parties opt for a selection process involving a series of local conventions starting from March 12, culminating in a state convention, the details of which each party is expected to announce by the aforementioned date.

In Texas, voters are allowed to participate in the primary and runoff elections of only one party, or alternatively, they can choose to engage in the convention of a third party.

The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Election Day.
