ALVIN, Texas – Julie Pickren has been a trustee with the Alvin Independent School District Board since 2015. She traveled to Washington in January to take part in former President Donald Trump’s rally and documented it on FaceBook. “We ask that Ms. Pickren explain what the process was for her being there,” said chapter president Eugene Howard. “We’re not asking for ms Pickren to resign. we’re letting the community know that ms Pickren is up for reelection.”KPRC 2 asked Pickren for comment, she declined.

Castro was a long-time employee who worked for Alvin Independent School District for 14 years. “We appreciate your understanding as our Alvin ISD family grieves with his family.”In a letter to welcome Alvin Junior High School community to the 2020-2021 school year, Castro wrote that he enjoyed working with junior high school students:“This is an important and critical time of transition-moving from the elementary school experience and preparing for the bigger challenges that await them in high school and beyond. Alvin ISD first-grader helps fellow schoolmates get computers
In this day in age, online school is Landon Taylor’s new normal. This voracious reader and gifted student behind the nonprofit Landon’s Closet. Landon’s parents, Laverne and Marlow Taylor, started Landon’s Closet as a nonprofit that gave clothing to children in need. Landon’s parents said they are proud to see their son sharing a kind of understanding and consideration from which anyone can learn. Landon’s parents said if anyone wants to donate or get a laptop for other children in need their nonprofit Landon’s Closet would be happy to help.
Alvin HS football coach resigns after players say he used n-word, racial slurs before game
HOUSTON – An Alvin High School football coach resigned Thursday after players said he used the n-word and other racial slurs before a game. Just hours before last Friday night’s football game, two Alvin High School football players said a coach used derogatory terms they won’t soon forget. “I told him that wasn’t cool and then he told me, ‘Do I want to play?’ I just start walking away. A spokeswoman for the Alvin Independent School District said the school district has launched an investigation and a staff member has been placed on administrative leave, though the district did not name the employee. They work hard and they go to practice every day and for him to downgrade them like that it’s just horrible,” said April Bell, the players' mother.

Tomball ISD - Tomball ISD schools and facilities are open Wednesday, Sept. 23 and the district will operate on a normal schedule. Classes continue online.
Parents raise concerns about technology accessibility for students in virtual learning
ALVIN Not every family can afford or have access to the basic digital tools their children need for virtual learning. How are they going to learn when we dont have anything that works, Lauren Levesque said. Levesque works from home and will send her daughter back to school because the internet goes in and out. But parents like Braid and Levesque say the problems fall back on the companies that provide the services they need. We have to figure out how to get it fixed so they can have a good education, Levesque said.

The CDC requests that each school develop a proactive plan for when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19. For all school districts, impacted staff, students, and parents will be notified of any potential COVID exposure. Since exposure to COVID is a big part of quarantine, we wanted to know what qualifies as “exposure” to COVID?

ALVIN – Alvin Independent School District, which is offering summer school, provides a preview of what schools all across of Texas are likely to look like when they open for the new school year. When walking in the hallways and in all common areas, elementary school children will be required to walk with a special rope to enforce a six-foot distance between each child. “We can tell them to social distance as much as they would like, but they need to physically see it,” Ruiz said. Each student holds on to one ball and that gives them a measurement of having social distance between them.”Once inside the classroom, children are distanced again, at least six feet apart. Children are taught a special dance to help illustrate a safe distance.
Alvin ISD: Families can pick from face-to-face or virtual instruction for the 2020-2021 school year
Alvin ISD is giving families the choice of either face-to-face or virtual instruction for the upcoming school year. Virtual instruction will be offered through a Remote Synchronous Instruction format and a Remote Asynchronous Instruction format. Remote Synchronous Instruction: Two-way, real-time/live, virtual instruction between teachers and students when students are not on campus. Remote Asynchronous Instruction: Instruction that does not require having the instructor and student engaged at the same time. Alvin ISD students graduate from dual credit program
79 Alvin ISD students participated in Alvin Community Colleges graduation ceremony, at 3110 Mustang Road, Alvin, as graduates of the dual credit program. Of the graduates, 55 students earned an Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies and 24 will earn a technical certificate.
