Both shootings happened on Feb. 18, 2022.

In the first shooting, police were dispatched around 9:10 p.m. to the 1300 block of Webster Street. Officers arrived to find a 40-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition.

Minutes later, officers responded to a second shooting scene in the 1300 block of Hadley Street near Caroline Street and found another victim, Adam Phillips, also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The 50-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation identified Hernandez as the shooter in both cases.

On Wednesday, investigators found Hernandez in the Harris County Jail on an unrelated charge and moved forward with the additional charges against him in the February shootings.

A search of court records revealed that Hernandez was already sentenced to probation in May 2022 for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. For that offense, he was given four years of deferred adjudication, which was scheduled to end in 2026.
