18-wheeler loses load of lumber during multi-vehicle crash on Eastex Freeway

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The northbound main lanes of the Eastex Freeway at North Park Drive were shut down Thursday afternoon after a major crash involving an 18-wheeler and several other vehicles.

Houston police said the 18-wheeler lost a load of lumber, and the splintered wood was scattered all along the road. Six other vehicles were involved in the crash, and several were towed away. Sky 2 captured video of a piece of lumber that went through the front windshield of a truck.

No injuries were reported, according to HPD. Drivers said that they were stuck for hours in the traffic backup and were faced with delays or detours.

“It was horrible," Amy Potter said. “I think we did 2 miles in about 45 minutes to an hour maybe.”

Kylie Usher said her 30-minute commute also took close to two hours.

“It was so slow-moving, it was pretty bad the entire time," she said.

Houston police said the accident is under investigation.
