Vigil held at Discovery Green to end Asian hate
HOUSTON โ Hundreds gathered at Discovery Green Saturday to denounce Asian hate and mourn the eight people lost in Atlantaโs spa shootings earlier this week. The vigil was put on by the OCA-Greater Houston, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well being Asian Pacific Americans. In the crowd, there were signs of love and others asking for the end to Asian hate. According to the OCA-Greater Houston, there have been 3,800 local hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders since March of 2020. AdSix of the eight victims were of Asian descent, despite that though the shooter claims the shooting was not racially motivated.

HOUSTON โ Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is asking fans to go home after reports of a planned rally at NRG Stadium Monday. Watson took to Twitter to tell fans he appreciated the support but wanted them to stay home for safety purposes. โIโm hearing there is a march planned on my behalf in Houston today,โ Watson said. Although I am humbled I ask that whoever is organizing the march cancel for the sake of public safety. โCovid is spreading at a high rate & I donโt want any fans to unnecessarily expose themselves to infection,โ Watson said.
White Army vet charged in shooting Black girl at Trump rally
A resident of tiny St. Charles, Iowa, McKinney has posted on Facebook in support of the far-right Proud Boys and against Black Lives Matter. In a news release detailing McKinneyโs arrest, the state police described an afternoon shooting at a parking lot and didn't mention the Trump car rally or the race of those involved. The teen driverโs mother said the girls argued with Trump supporters about politics and were subjected to racial slurs. The girlsโ car ended up surrounded by Trump supporters who were yelling and honking horns before the driver went in reverse and struck a pickup. Trump supporters have blasted authorities for charging McKinney, arguing that his shot protected rallygoers.

HOUSTON โ A push for justice in the death of Walter Cooper, a 71-year-old man who was hit and killed by HPD officers in a patrol vehicle in northeast Houston. On Sunday, the family held a rally calling for justice and change. Dozens of people held signs demanding justice. I donโt know what to say other than I love him,โ said Nicolas' mother Leantha Chavez. HOUSTON Several dozens gathered at Emancipation Park for a Black Lives More Than Matter rally Saturday. The gathering was one of several across Houston, part a growing movement to demand change. We want to reimagine policing and reallocating things, such as having maybe a mental health team, said organizer Dav Lewis. Were just trying to raise awareness and show people how voting can enact change and affect change in their community, said organizer Carl Ward. That is our message: Its really not just vote but be an informed voter.Organizers said a march to city hall will take place in the coming days.

Our employees need food and money to pay their bills,โ said James Kopeck, the co-owner of Chuters Dance Hall and Saloon. The dance hall recently hosted an event, defying Gov. Teens on social media are celebrating the success of an online prank to sabotage President Donald Trumpโs rally, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where officials anticipated massive crowds, the New York Times reports. Celebrating a not-so-full arena, teens on social media revealed how they pulled off the stunt. According to the report, the trend quickly spread on TikTok, where multiple videos of users encouraging each other to register for the rally and intentionally not show up reached millions of views. โThese kids are smart, and they thought of everything.โAccording to the Times, TikTok users and fans of Korean pop music groups claimed to have registered potentially hundreds of thousands of tickets for Trumpโs rally. According to the Times, Twitter users were quick to declare their victory after seeing the crowd size.

We need to stand beside them at all costs they have to know that we are there, they have to know that they are supported, said Diggs.
