The new anti-drunk driving campaign will conduct outreach events on college campuses and at key spring break designations using public service announcements, outdoor billboards and more. One person in Texas dies every eight hours and 31 minutes in a DUI-alcohol related traffic crash, TxDOT data shows. “These are disturbing numbers, especially as all of these crashes are preventable,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams.

How counties in Houston area are preparing roads ahead of winter storm
HOUSTON – The Texas Department of Transportation says they will start pre-treating roads, highways, and overpasses across the Houston area in the next 24 hours. They are waiting for roads to dry before starting the treatment process. “The more prepared our citizens can be the better off we are going to be,” said Meghan Arthur, a public information officer for Montgomery County. “We are expecting to see ice on ground level roadways as well,” said Emily Black, who is with the Texas Department of Transportation. The weather has already caused problems in Montgomery County.

HPD officer injured after driver strikes patrol vehicle on East Freeway
HOUSTON – A Houston police officer was injured overnight after a driver struck his patrol vehicle on the East Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department. Officials said the accident occurred while the officer was stationary in his patrol vehicle blocking a pothole on the East Freeway near Lockwood. A civilian vehicle traveling westbound on the freeway rear-ended the officer’s patrol vehicle. The officer suffered a laceration to his head and was transported to a hospital in the Texas Medical Center for treatment. TxDOT repaired the pothole and all westbound lanes on the East Freeway near Lockwood have reopened.

A construction crew began demolishing the eclectic pink, wedge-shaped building Thursday night ahead of a TxDOT construction project that will expand a 3-mile stretch of road on Highway 146. A nearly century-old Seabrook landmark, dubbed the Triangle Building by some and an eyesore by others, has reached its end. The Triangle Building is just one of many structures marked for demolition ahead of the roadwork. Several Seabrook businesses closed or relocated in response to the massive construction project. The demolition of the Triangle Building began Thursday night and will resume Monday, Sept. 16.

TxDOT anticipates SH 6/FM 1960 bridge construction to be completed in late 2020. Once the new SH 6/FM 1960 bridge is opened, SH 6/FM 1960 traffic will not have to travel through the signalized intersections at Hempstead, U.S. 290 and Wortham Boulevard. Galveston County Judge Mark Henry released a statement to his residents that said it would be "damaging" to scrap plans. If delayed or sidelined, the impacts on Galveston County and surrounding areas would be damaging. A fully constructed Grand Parkway would provide and additional and crucial lifesaving hurricane evacuation route for all Galveston County residents. The Texas Transportation Commission is expected to vote on it in late August.
