TOLLS

KPRC 2 Investigates: Woman hit with toll road fines for vehicle sold years ago

The only thing more annoying than getting bills in the mail is getting a bill that you don’t owe. A Texas City woman contacted KPRC 2 Investigates team after she received toll road fines for a vehicle she doesn’t even own.

Should you start taking tolls again?

While we may not quite be at pre-pandemic volumes during peak morning and afternoon commute times, we’re getting closer and closer as the weeks and months pass. And overall, volumes are trending in line with what we saw in 2019.

Ask 2: What is HCTRA going to do with the cash-only toll?

Question: What is the Harris County Toll Road Authority going to do with the cash-only toll booths?

Why do toll fees change throughout the day?

At KPRC 2, we’re dedicated to keeping Houstonians informed. As part of our Ask 2 series, the newsroom will answer your questions about all things Houston.

Got an EZ TAG? Here are the toll fee changes you want to be aware of

HOUSTON – Question : What are the changes EZ TAG customers will see in terms of fees? Answer : The Harris County Toll Road Authority has updated the EZ TAG Account holder agreement to provide a better customer service experience. Answer : Harris County has made it easier for drivers to obtain a pre-paid EZ TAG account, which is the most efficient way to pay tolls. EZ TAG account holders pay the lowest toll rate and may use their EZ TAG on toll roads throughout Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma. Drivers can sign up at hctra.org or download the EZ TAG app.

Say goodbye to toll stickers and hello to this easy-to-use app

HOUSTON – Texas drivers can now ditch those toll stickers on their windshields and opt-in on a new toll app to pay their fees. Uproad’s Andrew Peppard is based in Texas and to KPRC 2 about the benefits of this technology and how it can ease the stress of navigating toll roads. Subscribers who don’t already have a toll payment account will receive toll discounts, but there is a small membership fee to get this perk. There is also a 15% transaction fee every time a toll is paid. AdThe technology lets drivers manage their account all in one place, without the headaches associated with toll prices, mischarges or mailed toll bills.

Ask 2: I’ve ordered my EZ Tags, can I still use the toll roads while I wait for them to arrive?

Question:Answer: There are a few ways to use the toll roads while waiting for your new EZ Tags to arrive by mail. You can download the EZ Tag app on your smartphone to temporarily add your vehicle’s plate number and the mininum amount of tolls you plan to use. On your EZ Tag account, you are able to add your vehicle as an “EZ Plate” account for a limited time. You may only use your vehicle in toll lanes marked “EZ Tag” only, and rates are based on cash lanes. Otherwise, no action is needed and you may continue to use the toll roads as usual, as the Harris County Toll Road Authority is billing toll drivers by mail in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
