HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The man accused of beating his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter is being held on a $1 million bond as court documents reveal the toddler “is not expected to survive.”
Gerardo Gonzalez, 29, was arrested Friday after taking the unresponsive girl to a Spring gas station on Cypresswood Drive with his girlfriend, the mother of the young girl, on Thursday around 8:20 p.m.

There they met with Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables. The girl was rushed to one hospital before being flown to another.
Gonzalez allegedly admitted to striking the girl in the head multiple times, on the chest, lower back, and butt, as well as stepping on her pelvis, which likely caused her to suffer a broken pelvis and lacerated liver, according to court records.
She also suffered a skull fracture and is not expected to survive, according to court records.
“The reason that you’re by yourself here today is that we don’t want anybody else to know what you’ve been charged with because this is the kind of place where if they hear what you’re charged with, you can get seriously hurt,” Harris County magistrate judge Temple Ramming said during Gonzalez’s probable cause hearing early Saturday morning.
According to records, Gonzalez has multiple arrests from the past but no convictions.
“I’ve seen a lot of bad stuff the last 15 years of practicing criminal law. This is one of the worst. The allegations here are very, very serious and extremely troubling,” Ramming said.
On Monday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the girl remains in “very critical” condition.
“Our thoughts are with this young toddler as she continues to fight for her life. Cases involving children are among the most heartbreaking first responders encounter, and we remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote on X on Friday.
